After asking for another shot at the best league in the world, Guerschon Yabusele is getting just that. Yabusele has agreed to a one-year deal with the 76ers, per ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski, after the forward had a standout few weeks at the Paris Olympics
Yabusele, 28, was one of France’s best players in the home country’s run to the silver medal in the Olympics. The forward posted on social media he was ready for his second chance at the league after playing overseas the past few seasons. Now, he’ll get a chance to make an impact for a Sixers team looking to take the next step in the playoffs.
Yabusele originally started his career with the Celtics after getting drafted 16th overall in 2016. He played for the C’s from 2017-19, playing in 74 games (five starts) while averaging 2.3 points and 1.4 rebounds per game. Yabusele wasn’t able to stick in the league, though, as he played overseas, mainly for powerhouse Real Madrid in recent seasons.
One of the roadblocks for a Yabusele NBA return was his contract with Real Madrid, which included a player buyout. But it appears that wasn’t too big of an obstacle to get the Frenchman stateside. The Celtics will get to see Yabusele up-close as a division rival for the upcoming season.
Yabusele’s size shouldn’t be an issue as he plays physically with his large 6-foot-8 frame. He also developed into a knockdown shooter overseas, but he’ll have to adjust to the further NBA 3-point line. There will be other major adjustments to the NBA game as the Sixers hope they picked up a potential contributor for cheap.
