From 2015-2020 Walker, who famously led UConn to the 2011 national championship with dominant performances in the Big East and NCAA Tournaments, was one of the best guards in the NBA, first in Charlotte and then in his first season with the Celtics.
The Celtics acquired him as part of a sign-and-trade with the Charlotte Hornets for Terry Rozier and hoped he’d be a suitable replacement for Kyrie Irving on the floor and a positive breath of fresh air off of it. He had a strong first season in Boston averaging 20.4 points and 4.8 assists per game.
But knee problems hampered his shooting, his mobility and his ability to stay on the court. He played in 2021-22 with the Knicks, but appeared in just 37 games. He played nine games with the Mavericks in 2022-23 and was a free agent.
