Focus turns inside as Westfield Woman’s Club seeks $500K for renovations

WESTFIELD — The Westfield Woman’s Club is looking to raise $500,000, as members shift their focus from renovating the outside of their clubhouse to the inside.

“It’s an old building, almost 100 years old. The problem is you start on one project, but as you start on it, you uncover something else,” said club President Paula Godfrey.

In July, Watson Construction started restoration work on the nearly 100-year-old clubhouse at 28 Court St., Westfield, one of only two buildings dedicated to women’s clubs in Massachusetts. Built in 1926, the building hosts a community kitchen and a theater, the latter used by the Westfield Theatre Group, a department of the club. The building can be rented out for events and the downstairs level for smaller occasions, dinners and parties.
