First $1 million lotto prize won in Mass. from new scratch ticket game

The first $1 million prize was won in a new scratch ticket game from the Massachusetts State Lottery.

Varinder Bhakhri, of Ashland, won $1 million from the new “200X” game that was released on June 10. There’s still five $1 million prizes to be claimed as of June 27, along with all three $10 million grand prizes.

Bhakhri chose the cash option on his prize and received a one-time payment of $650,000 before taxes. He told the lottery he wants to buy a new house with the winnings.

He bought his winning ticket at Family Farms, located at 98 Boston Tpke. in Shrewsbury. The shop will receive a $10,000 bonus for selling the winning ticket.
