WESTFIELD — In eight short weeks, movers will bring the supplies from Abner Gibbs and Franklin Avenue elementary schools into the new Westfield River Elementary School, which is almost completed. Teachers will move into their classrooms on Jan. 2 and Jan. 3, 2025, and students on Jan. 6.
Crews are busy installing walkways and outdoor seating areas, and other exterior features that will enhance the school’s accessibility and functionality. This week, the striping was applied to the parking, entrance and exit areas, according to Mike Sarnelli, project supervisor with Fontaine Bros., and Mike DelVecchio, owner’s project manager with P3, who said the traffic light on Franklin Street will begin operating in the next couple of weeks.
