You might think finding a gift card worth $500 is your lucky day. But it’s not.
It’s a scam, police in Massachusetts are warning.
Residents in Newton found the gift cards in envelopes placed on their car windshields at the TJ Maxx and Sierra Trading Post parking lots around 5 p.m. on Tuesday. The envelopes also had a QR code to scan.
“We believe scammers are trying to get personal information and possibly credit card information once the link is clicked,” the Newton Police Department explained. “Please do not scan the QR code and always be vigilant when giving out personal information/credit card information.”
Police are asking that if anyone sees someone placing these envelopes on cars, call the police department at 617-796-2123.
