The U.S. Food and Drug Administration is warning against using certain diet supplements that were promoted to treat pain on Amazon, SoloVital, Main Products and various retail stores.
Umary and Amazy products were marketed as dietary supplements but the FDA says “they may be harmful to your health.”
“This is due to potentially dangerous hidden drug ingredients not listed on the product label,” the FDA said in a press release. “FDA urges consumers taking these products to talk to their health care professional if they have any concerns.”
Testing found certain Umary and Amazy products contain the drug ingredients diclofenac and omeprazole but they were not listed on the product label, the FDA said.
Diclofenac could cause increased risk of heart attack or stroke, serious gastrointestinal damage or could interact with other medications.
Omeprazole could cause serious skin reactions, abdominal pain, diarrhea, nausea, headache or interact with other medications, the FDA warned.
The FDA first warned about the products in June. Since then, the FDA said it has received an increase in adverse event reports.
“The adverse event reports are consistent with known common adverse reactions such as gastrointestinal, cardiovascular and serious skin reactions associated with the drug ingredients found in Umary,” the FDA said.
