Family of slain Mass. father demands city, bus company ‘preserve evidence’

SPRINGFIELD — If a city elementary school and a bus company had taken one family’s bullying complaints seriously, a shooting would not have happened and a local father would still be alive.

That’s the contention of a court filing made July 10 by Alicia Breitung, the wife of the fatal shooting victim, Justin Ryan Maximillian Breitung. He was shot near a bus stop in March 2023, allegedly by the parents of one of the students who had bullied his daughter. Both children attended Glickman Elementary School at the time of the bullying and shooting.

In Superior Court, the recently widowed Breitung is requesting evidence from the district and bus company related to the bullying that was done both on school grounds and on the school bus operated by First Student Inc., which is based in Cincinnati, Ohio. She also demands documentation of the bullying protocol and procedures at Glickman.
