Experts say water contaminant levels in Springfield should not cause panic, but can’t be ignored

A university expert on water quality says Springfield’s report of high levels of contaminants is not cause for panic — but must also be watched closely and taken seriously.

“The numbers are a violation of safe drinking water standards so in that respect, it is significant,” said John Tobiason, head of the University of Massachusetts Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering.
