Ex-Red Sox utility man again stars for Dodgers in NLCS

Remember “The Summer of George?”

Welcome to “The Autumn of Kiké.”

Kiké Hernandez, who played for the Red Sox from 2021-2023, came through again in the postseason for the Los Angeles Dodgers Wednesday night. Hernandez smoked a two-run homer in the sixth inning, helping the Dodgers defeat the New York Mets in Game 3 of the National League Championship Series, 8-0.

The Dodgers now lead the best-of-seven series two games to one. Game 4 is set for Thursday night at Citi Field.

The homer was the the second of the postseason for Hernandez, who also homered in the winner-take-all Game 5 of the Division Series against the San Diego Padres, supplying one of the Dodgers’ two runs in the game that sent them on to the NLCS.

On Wednesday, Hernandez also singled in the eighth and came around to score on a three-run homer from Shohei Ohtani.

In all, Hernandez is hitting .333 this postseason with seven hits and six runs scored and three RBI. He began the postseason on the bench, but an injury to shortstop Miguel Rojas in the Division Series resulted in additional playing time for Hernandez, who started Wednesday night in center field.

The homer was the 15th postseason home run of his career, placing him ninth on the all-time list. Those 15 homers have come in just 78 games, including five in 11 games with the Red Sox in 2021.
