Ex-Patriots CB kicked out of game for fighting

Jack Jones is still struggling to stay on the field in his new home.

The Raiders cornerback was booted out of Las Vegas’ season opener for fighting with Chargers wideout Joshua Palmer on Sunday afternoon. You can see video of the altercation here. A Patriots fourth-rounder in 2022, Jones didn’t last two seasons in Foxborough before New England parted ways with him.

Jones was suspended at the end of his rookie season for issues with injury rehab, arrested at Logan Airport for allegedly trying to bring guns through TSA the following spring, and then fell out of favor with the coaching staff once again in his second season after reportedly missing curfew. The Patriots opted to waive him after the team’s trip to Germany last November, but Bill Belichick was tight-lipped on the circumstances at the time.

Q: So, what went into the decision to cut Jones?

Belichick: “Just felt like it’s time to move on.”

Q: Well, was the decision to part ways due to Jones’ performance or due to his behavior and conduct off of the field?

Belichick: “I felt like it was time to move on.”

Q: Did something happen in Germany that led to Jones being cut?

Belichick: “No, not really.”

Q: Why now? Why cut Jones this week after he was clearly in a precarious position in recent weeks?

Belichick: “Yeah, I just felt like this was the time.”

Q: How do the Patriots feel about the decision to draft Jones? Is there something they missed in the draft process?

Belichick: “Jack’s a talented player. He showed that when he played for us at times. In the end, I felt like we just needed to move on. But he’s a talented player.”
