ESPN host stays for ‘tens of millions’ after Fox tried to poach him (report)

The host of ESPN’s popular “College Gameday” program is reportedly sticking around — despite Fox’s best efforts.

According to The Athletic’s Andrew Marchand, long-time ESPN host Rece Davis has signed a new seven-year deal with the network that is worth “tens of millions of dollars.”

Fox had reportedly been recruiting Davis to jump ship to help give a boost to their own college football pregame show, “Big Noon Kickoff.” Marchand notes that Davis did take a “slight hometown discount” to stick with ESPN.

Davis has been at ESPN for 30 years, having landed with the national sports leader back in 1995. He’s best known for his role as the host of ESPN’s “College Gameday” pregame show on college football Saturdays. He also hosts “College Gameday” for college basketball Saturdays.

Davis has led “College Gameday” coverage since 2015, when he took over for Chris Fowler. He serves as a mainstay of the popular program alongside Kirk Herbstreit, Desmond Howard, Pat McAfee, Nick Saban and Lee Corso.

With Fox, Davis would have been in line to me the new primary host of “Big Noon Kickoff,” replacing Rob Stone. Other personalities on Fox’s college football pregame show include Mark Ingram, Matt Leinart, Brady Quinn and Urban Meyer.
