East Boston highway to remain closed Tuesday morning after bus crash

Part of a highway connecting East Boston and other communities north of Boston with the city will remain closed during the Tuesday morning commute, a day after a bus crash took down two transformers and three light poles, police said.

Route 1A South, or McClellan Highway, has been closed since the Monday morning crash, which took place around 5:39 a.m., according to Boston Police. Its closure could cause significant traffic delays in and around Boston Logan International Airport — particularly for those coming from areas north of Boston.

The closure only impacts those heading south. The highway reopened for traffic heading out of Boston on Monday afternoon.

It is still not clear when the southbound side of the highway will reopen.

The Monday morning collision caused two transformers and at least three light poles to come down by 175 William F. McClellan Hwy, police said.

The bus had several people on board and two were brought to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, the department said.
