Duty status hearing for Trooper Michael Proctor to be held Monday

A duty status hearing for Massachusetts State Police Trooper Michael Proctor, who admitted to sending “unprofessional” and derogatory text messages about Karen Read during his investigation into her, will be held on Monday.

After Read’s murder trial ended in a mistrial on Tuesday, State Police relieved Proctor, who was the lead investigator in Read’s case, of his duties and transferred out of the Norfolk County District Attorney’s Office State Police Detective’s Unit. In all State Police discipline processes, the trooper is subject to a duty status hearing where they will either be retained on full duty, placed on restrictive duty, suspended with pay or suspended without pay.
