Driver shot by police in critical condition after police say they hit officer with car

A Boston police officer shot a person suspected of stealing a stolen car after they hit an officer with the car near the Forest Hills MBTA station on Thursday night, leaving the suspect in critical condition, officials said.

Officers went to the station at around 7:46 p.m. on Thursday to aid in the recovery of a stolen car, Police Commissioner Michael Cox told reporters at the scene. As officers approached, the stolen car hit an officer. At that point, an officer fired his gun, hitting the driver of the stolen car.

Both the officer and the driver were taken to hospitals, Cox said. The officer was in stable condition with non-life-threatening injuries while the driver was in critical condition.
