WESTFIELD – The Nov. 19 School Committee meeting began on a high note as Galen Wilson, WTA Aviation department head talked about the program that prepares students as certified aviation mechanics. Since starting in 2015, he said the program has reached nearly 100 students.
Wilson said all of the students who begin as freshmen want to work on airplanes. They go through the exploratory process and compete for one of 14 slots a year. This year, 71 students sought one of the 14 slots.
