
SOUTHWICK — Following three separate incidents of racial bullying last year at Southwick Regional School, the state’s Department of Elementary and Secondary Education recently issued a report with a detailed timeline of what occurred, the district’s response, pointed out two lapses in policy, found it had violated the Civil Rights Act of 1964, and ordered the district to take corrective action involving its bullying policy.
The 17-page report, which was issued on Jan. 17, had most of the names of those involved, students and administrative staff and faculty, redacted as well as specific dates of the occurrences.
Last February the district began an investigation was started after it learned about a “highly inappropriate and racist conversation on Snapchat, that involved students at our school,” School Committee Chair Robert Stevenson said at the time.
