Demoted Bruins prospect likely to get one more opportunity in NHL camp

BOSTON — The Bruins sent Fabian Lysell to Providence on Sunday, but he and several other prospects who were demoted to AHL camp are likely to make another appearance in a preseason game for Boston.

General manager Don Sweeney said the Bruins wanted to run camp Sunday, Monday and Tuesday with a smaller group of players but could call players up again.

“In all likelihood, we’re going to evaluate after tomorrow night’s game, what the lineup looks like for Thursday and there will be several players that will come back and play whether that’s Thursday or Saturday,” he said. “So camp is not over. The evaluation process really never ends.”

More realistically though, Sweeney said the 21-year-old Swedish forward is getting closer, but needs to make improvements before he’s a full-time NHL player.

“Everybody sees the skillset that Fabian has, and we’re excited about it,” Sweeney said. “Now we continue to allow him to fill in the gaps in terms of building a team game that (Jim Montgomery) feels is a big part of what the Bruins to have success is. All young players go through that process. But he’ll get another opportunity and hopefully, he takes advantage of it.”

Lysell struggled in his preseason debut but played better and scored a power-play goal in his second game.
