Delta flight to Rome canceled after engine issue at Boston Logan

A Delta flight departing Boston for Rome Tuesday night was canceled after the crew received “an indication of an engine issue,” the airline said in a statement.

“Delta teams are working to re-accommodate our customers and we apologize for the inconvenience and delay,” the statement reads.

The Airbus A330-300 had 152 customers and crew members on board when it was forced to cancel takeoff due to the unspecified engine issue. The flight was later canceled after the plane was brought in for inspection, and the airline determined additional maintenance was needed.

The flight was scheduled to leave Boston Logan International Airport at 6:05 p.m. and arrive at Leonardo da Vinci–Fiumicino Airport in Rome around 1:47 a.m. Eastern Daylight Time, according to the flight tracking software FlightAware. But due to the cancellation and delay the flight left Boston just before 9 p.m. and arrived in Rome around 4:30 a.m.

Neither the Federal Aviation Administration nor the Massachusetts Port Authority returned requests for comment.

The Delta flight’s cancellation came just one day after a United Airlines flight leaving Boston for Washington Dulles International Airport in Virginia was canceled due to an engine issue. That plane was a Boeing 737-800, according to the airline.
