HOLYOKE — When Lauren Stauble runs into troubled times, the last thing she wants in the driver’s seat is her amygdala — a warning center in the brain that signals fight or flight in humans.

“Our amygdala can hijack the whole brain,” she told The Republican. “When it’s in the driver’s seat, that’s when we say things we wish we didn’t say or do things we wish we didn’t do.”
