On Dec. 4, I received a letter from Eversource that my natural gas prices for home heating would increase a whopping 27%. I asked myself why and did some research.
First, the usual reason might be the scarcity of natural gas inventory, resulting in higher prices. The answer is just the opposite. It turns out that natural gas inventory is at a level of 19% higher, or 31% above the five-year average, according to a Forbes magazine report in May.
There is plenty of inventory and more coming.
