Tanner Houck, Jarren Duran and Rafael Devers will represent the Boston Red Sox for the American League as reserve players in the Major League Baseball All-Star Game later this month. And they’ll see a few familiar faces at Globe Life Park.
Chris Sale was named to his eighth All-Star team on Sunday night. In his first season with the Braves after being traded to Atlanta by Boston prior to the start of the 2024 season, the left-hander has gone 11-3 with a 2.71 ERA and 127 strikeouts in 99 ⅔ innings pitched.
It’s been a bounce-back year for Sale, who spent more time injured than on the mound in his final seasons for the Red Sox. He ran into a string of bad luck with injuries in Boston, and admitted while some of his best days were with the Red Sox, so were some of his worst.

Phillies reliever Matt Strahm was also named to the National League All-Star team with Sale. The lefty is in the midst of his second season with Philadelphia after spending 2022 with the Red Sox. In 35 appearances this season, has a 1.64 ERA and 44 strikeouts.
Mookie Betts was named as a reserve for the NL team as a shortstop — the first time he’s made the team at this position. He was an All-Star seven other times as an outfielder. But the former Red Sox star won’t be able to participate in the Midsummer Classic due to a broken left hand he suffered after getting hit with a pitch in June.
It’s unclear who the injury replacement will be for Betts for the NL, or if any other Red Sox players will be named to the AL team as injury replacements.
The MLB All-Star Game is set for Tuesday, July 16 in Arlington, Texas.
