Chance of flooding returns to parts of Massachusetts

While most of the state will remain dry on Thursday, the chance of flooding returns for the Berkshires.

“Another nice day is in store before showers/storms return late tonight and through the day Friday,” the National Weather Service tweeted. “… Heavy rainfall on Friday could lead to some flash flooding.”

Friday is the biggest concern for those in the westernmost part of the state as some of the storms could produce heavy rain, the weather service said.

Rain is expected to continue on Saturday with scattered showers and thunderstorms possible throughout the day.

A hazardous weather outlook has been issued for the area regarding the possible storms and flooding.

The rest of the state can also expect thunderstorms Friday. However, most of the weekend is expected to remain dry in these areas.

Western Massachusetts has been hit hard by recent flooding. And Massachusetts Gov. Maura Healey recently visited the state’s most devastated areas.

The flooding across Massachusetts caused many to evacuate their homes as well as caused damage to homes and people’s belongings. Farms have been especially impacted, according to Healey. Multiple GoFundMe pages have also been set up to help impacted farms.

Healey noted that flooding like this may happen more often with climate change.

“I think, unfortunately, what we know is that we are going to see more and more severe weather incidents, which is why we as a state — I think we as an administration — have really prioritized that we’ve got to do this work,” Healey said.
