Mazy, a sweet, 9-year-old shorthair cat with sleek, black hair, is getting a second chance at finding a loving home after enduring extensive physical trauma, the MSPCA announced Thursday.
Mazy was brought to the MSPCA-Angell animal hospital in Boston with bruising and swelling on her face on June 5, the animal protection non-profit said in a press release. She was soon treated by a veterinarian, who discovered that, not only did she have 10 broken teeth and jaw fractures, she also had numerous fractured ribs.

“The injuries seemed inconsistent with those sustained accidentally, so the veterinarian suspected potential animal cruelty and reached out to our Law Enforcement Department for help,” MSPCA-Angell Vice President of Animal Protection Mike Keiley said in the release. ” … Unfortunately, it’s likely we’ll never really know how and when those injuries happened.”
Mazy’s previous owner surrendered her to the MSPCA on June 10, the non-profit said. She soon continued her healing journey by undergoing surgery to remove her broken teeth.
“We’re doing everything we can to learn how this sweet cat was hurt, but we’re also focusing on getting her healed up and ready for a new home with adopters who will give her the affection and care she deserves,” Keiley said.

As of Thursday, Mazy has recovered enough to make her ready for adoption, the MSPCA said. Anyone interested in adding her to their family is asked to visit the non-profit’s Boston Adoption Center during its open hours: 12 p.m. to 3 p.m., Tuesday through Sunday.
“Despite the obvious discomfort from the swelling and bruising on her face, Mazy still tries to playfully headbutt staff treating her,” Keiley said. “She’s an amazing example of the resilience of animals — even though she’s hurt, she’s still leading with love and trust.”
Those interested in helping cover the cost of Mazy’s care is asked to donate to the MSPCA at mspca.org/mazy.
