Bystanders attempted to save man in motorcycle crash, police say

Bystanders attempted to save a man involved in a motorcycle crash Tuesday, according to the Abington Fire Department.

At about 9 a.m. Tuesday, officials responded to 911 calls reporting a motorcycle crash near 900 Bedford St., according to the fire department. When officials got there, multiple bystanders were already treating the unidentified man.

He was taken to South Shore Hospital with critical injuries. He later died, officials said.

Abington Fire Chief Jack Glynn said dozens of people had witnessed the crash, many of whom had reached out to the department.

“If you’re struggling or having some difficulty, please reach out to someone you trust and if you’re that person someone reaches out to, listen and be grateful someone trusts you that much,” Glynn wrote.

He also encouraged people to keep the family in their thoughts and appreciate “the gifts we have in life.” This includes holding the door for someone, telling a friend you’re proud of them or telling someone good morning.

“Yesterday serves as a painful reminder that life can change in an instance and that today is a gift,” the fire chief wrote.
