Bruins reveal what injuries they dealt with during postseason

BRIGHTON — Among the annual traditions at the end of an NHL season is the revealing of the injuries.

Shortly after players shave off their playoff beards, ailments that had been undisclosed or even unknown are often revealed. When the Bruins players spoke with the media on Sunday morning (after being eliminated by Florida on Friday night) before their final meeting with coaches and management some removed the shroud of secrecy.

Here’s what players said they were dealing with:

Danton Heinen: He missed time in the playoffs with “Lingering stuff.” Will be addressed this offseason.

“I just had some lingering stuff. I don’t really want to get into it. It was just frustrating to not be able to be out there battling for a few games there,” he said. “We’ll discuss. I think I should be able to make a full recovery.”

Charlie McAvoy – McAvoy, who didn’t mention his black eye, said he’s been dealing with a shoulder ailment (AC joint).

“I had an (acromioclavicular), which kind of sucked. I’ve never heard that before,” McAvoy said. “And that’s really an annoying injury like, a couple of people were like, ‘you’re gonna deal with that all year.’ They weren’t wrong. It’s annoying, but it’s not one of those things that you can’t overcome. Everybody deals with stuff like that.”

Matt Grzelcyk: Everyone knew Grzelcyk was injured early. He revealed what he had, a torn oblique.

“Early in the year I just tore my oblique, so that was why I had to go on LTIR for about a month there,” he said. “I think that kind of derailed me a little bit, not even just from the injury, just having to miss 10 games. I think that was tough to get back from and I had a tough time finding my groove after that.”

David Pastrnak: Recurring groin issues. He said they didn’t impact playoffs.

“I had a couple of groin issues this season that were coming back a lot,” he said.

Derek Forbort: Surgery on both groins, and for torn ligament in thumb.

“I got both of my groins done, and there was a torn ligament in my thumb, so they fixed that too.”

Hampus Lindholm: “Jacked my knee” but otherwise healthy.
