Bruins prospect expected to join lineup vs. Sharks

A Bruins team in need of offense is expected to insert Fabian Lysell into the lineup on Saturday at San Jose.

The Bruins have dropped four straight games and have struggled to generate chances as the team slides further out of playoff contention since trading five regulars before the trade deadline.

Bruins interim coach Joe Sacco confirmed Lysell will play with Elias Lindholm and Marat Khusnutdinov.

Lysell led the team’s stretch at the end of morning skate on Saturday.

Lysell was called up from Providence on Tuesday but didn’t dress against the Golden Knights in the Bruins’ 5-1 loss on Thursday.

This is Lysell’s second call-up. He was brought up for one game in late December before being returned to the AHL.

The 22-year-old former first-round pick from Sweden has 11 goals and 23 assists for 34 points in 51 games for the Providence Bruins.

The Bruins had hoped Lysell and Georgii Merkulov would challenge for a roster spot in training camp, but both struggled and were returned to the AHL.

Michael Callahan is also expected to slot in on defense for Ian Mitchell.
