McAvoy, teammates Mason Lohrei and Johnny Beecher, McAvoy’s two sisters as well as Bruins staffers distributed 400 Wegmans pies to the New England Center and Home for Veterans, St. Francis House, Pine Street Inn and The Home for Little Wanderers.

They delivered the pies and also helped serve food at the Pine Street Inn.

“I have the greatest job in the world,” McAvoy said. “This tradition has become very special to me and my family. I have so much to be thankful for.”

McAvoy follows in the footsteps of Aaron Ward, who donated turkeys in 2008. He’s been followed by Dennis Wideman (2009), Gregory Campbell (2010-14), Matt Beleskey (2015-17) and Zdeno Chara (2018-20).

McAvoy, who held Chara in particularly high regard when they were teammates, took over for his former defensive partner in 2021 and has led the effort since.
