BOSTON — There are less than two weeks before the NHL’s March 7 trade deadline and there’s growing reason to believe the Bruins could be sellers.
If they are, Morgan Geekie could be one of the Bruins’ most attractive targets. Geekie will be a restricted free agent after the season. His strong second-half has likely raised his salary potential and increased interest in him among other teams. If the Bruins don’t think they can sign him at a price they’re comfortable with, he could be someone they’d consider moving.
He has 10 goals and four assists since New Year’s and had the Bruins’ game-tying goal in Saturday’s 3-2 overtime loss.
Geekie doesn’t have any no-trade protection so he’ll have to wait through the deadline to find out his future. But he’s hoping to remain in Boston.
“I mean, I want to be a Bruin. I’d love to be a Bruin as long as I can be,” Geekie said. “It’s not up to me. I’m just going go out there and play. I love every guy in here and everything about the organization — the culture. However the chips may fall it’s going to be what it is. My focus is going to be Tuesday against the Leafs and go from there.”
