Bruins fall to Wings, finish road trip winless

The Bruins’ brutal, hope-eradicating road trip ended the same way it went for the five games. Boston couldn’t generate enough offense and fell to the Red Wings, 2-1, on Saturday night in Detroit.

The Bruins (30-35-9) have now lost eight (0-7-1) straight, including all five on the road trip. They have just 14 goals in those eight games. They’re 2-7-1 since the trade deadline and 3-12-3 in their last 18.

They’ll return home to start their final eight games on Tuesday against the Eastern Conference leading Washington Capitals.

After two early fights both went Detroit’s way, Marco Kasper gave Detrot an early 1-0 lead, 5:37 into the game for the first period’s only goal.

Lucas Raymond doubled that edge on the power play early in the second.

Morgan Geekie remained a rare Bruins’ bright spot as he redirected a David Pastrnak shot by Cam Talbot, 2:12 into the second for his 27th goal of the season.

Neither team scored again as Talbot robbed Casey Mittelstadt with 9.3 seconds left in the third period to seal the Detroit win.

Talbot and Jeremy Swayman each finished with 20 saves. Swayman has now lost five straight.
