BOSTON — Charlie McAvoy doesn’t care about playoff seeding. He doesn’t care about winning another Presidents’ Trophy or an Atlantic Division title.
With four games left in the regular season, the Bruins are comfortably in the playoffs, so the 26-year-old defenseman was thinking only about being ready for the postseason when it arrives.

“We’re just trying to put together our best team. We’ve played a lot of good teams here recently. For us, it’s not so much about the opponent, but ourselves. We’re trying to round into form,” he said after Saturday’s 3-2 win over Florida. “There’s a certain simplicity we have to play. It allows us to have success. At times it might be boring, but it’s winning hockey. Getting the puck behind them, staying above them. Being opportunistic. Overall not beating ourselves.
“There was a moment a couple of weeks ago looking at ourselves where we know we’re beating ourselves and giving up things that we shouldn’t,” McAvoy said. “It was something where we had to dig deep and say we’re going to play simple and play responsible. We’ve done it for a couple weeks now and we’ve seen some good results.”
He said the other accolades only mean anything if they’re part of a championship leadup.
“I’ve been fortunate enough to be on division-winning teams and Presidents’ trophy-winning teams. It’s awesome, but no one remembers that,” McAvoy said. “You’d give it back for a Cup. I’m not really concerned with that.”
