The Bruins took the lead on the power play, 8:33 into the first period when the second unit got them on the board. Justin Brazeau matched his total from last year with his fifth goal of the season. Parked in front of the net, he jammed home the rebound of Tyler Johnson’s shot from the right wing to make it 1-0.

The Red Wings tied the game in the final minute of the first when Lucas Raymond beat Swayman with 58 seconds left.

After neither team scored in the second period, the Bruins carried the play early in the third, but Talbot held them off until Marchand broke through.

With 8:30 left, Marchand wheeled around from behind the net out of the right corner. He turned in the faceoff circle and snapped the puck past Talbot to make it 2-1.

The Bruins outshot the Wings 29-19 in the game and 13-4 in the third period, but they had to survive anxious moments late. Marchand was called for a hooking penalty with 1:22 left forcing Boston to defend four against six for much of the final minutes.

With 34 seconds left, Moritz Seider hit the crossbar behind Swayman. Thirteen seconds after Patrick Kane missed the net and the Bruins held on.

Swayman, who had his best game since Nov. 3 month finished with 18 saves. It was just the third winning streak of the season for Boston (10-9-3).
