Keith Law loves what the Boston Red Sox did to improve their roster this year. But he does have one concern.
Just in time for opening day, the longtime MLB analyst released the latest edition of his annual team projections. In it, he had the Red Sox in line to go 91-71, his best projected record of any AL team.
Only the Los Angeles Dodgers (100), Atlanta Braves (94) and New York Mets (92) were projected to have more.
“On paper, I think they’re the best team in the AL, likely to lead or come close to leading the league in runs scored and be at or above the median in run prevention,” Law wrote.
However, the MLB analyst said he was concerned about Boston’s pitching staff. The recent moves could produce a terrific unit. However, injuries could play a major factor in whether the staff lives up to its potential
“There’s some significant downside risk in that rotation,” Law wrote. “Garrett Crochet has had only one full season as a starter, Walker Buehler’s first year back from his second Tommy John surgery was not a success, and the guys who were supposed to be their next three starters are all going to start the year on the injured list.”
As Law noted, his projections only view the Red Sox as the AL’s best “on paper.” We’ll find out how good they actually are as the 2025 season unfolds.
That process starts Thursday as Boston takes on the Texas Rangers at 4:05 p.m. EDT in Arlington, Texas.
