Boston College women’s basketball earned a hard-fought 83-79 win over Miami on Thursday evening in the Watsco Center.
The Eagles snap a four-game skid, improving to 11-8 and 2-4 in the ACC, while Miami falls to 11-6 and 1-5 in the league.
T’yana Todd erupted for a career-high 29 points on 10-of-18 shooting from the field, highlighted by eight 3-pointers. The junior guard also grabbed six rebounds (five offensive).
Kaylah Ivey played the best game of her career, breaking the single-game program record with 16 assists and six points.
Andrea Daley scored 10 of her 14 points in the second half – with eight in the final quarter. She grabbed a team-best seven rebounds. Dontavia Waggoner added 14 points and six off the glass, while Teya Sidberry netted seven of her 10 points in the final period.
BC made plays on both ends down the stretch, forcing the Hurricanes to miss five of their last seven shots over the final 2:09 of the game. With BC leading by just one, 78-77, Ivey delivered the 3-pointer that gave the Eagles a four-point lead.
Miami cut it to one possession, but Sidberry iced the game at the line with a pair of free throws, giving BC its first win in Coral Gables since 2009.
A Daley layup started an 11-4 early in the fourth period that gave the Eagles a 72-65 lead, which was capped off by a Sidberry trey. Miami came back to within one point on multiple possessions, but BC answered each team.
BC took control in the third frame, as Todd continued her hot shooting with two straight 3-pointers to break a 44-44 tie. The Eagles later held a nine-point lead before the hosts brought the deficit to two going into the fourth.
The Eagles and Hurricanes were tied 7-7 early in the contest until the hosts went on a 10-3 run to take a 17-10 advantage with under two minutes left in the first quarter. Todd stepped up with back-to-back 3-pointers to close the frame, slicing the deficit to one.
Miami stayed in front for most of the second quarter until Ivey started a 14-5 surge that gave the Eagles a 39-37 advantage.
BC held a 21-10 edge in second-chance points and shot 52 percent over the final three periods and tied a season-high with 12 3-pointers.
The Eagles return to action on Sunday at 12 p.m. inside Conte Forum at noon.
