The Celtics will be without at least one All-Star for their rematch with the Brooklyn Nets on Tuesday night at TD Garden. Jaylen Brown was ruled out by the team on Monday while Jayson Tatum is listed as questionable due to right knee tendiopathy.
Brown is dealing with a right knee impingement that also sidelined him for some time last week. He left Saturday’s win over the Nets due to back spasms. Brown had eight points, six rebounds and three assists in 24 minutes played before he was ruled out, shooting 3-for-8 from the field, along with 1-for-3 on 3-pointers.
Brown should have a good window to rest this week with the team only having one game in five days before heading off on a six-game road trip beginning Friday night in Utah.
Tatum also missed a win over the Jazz last week with a knee injury. The team has tried to talk him into to taking more rest days with the team’s seeding secured but Tatum acknowledged last week in Miami that’s butted heads with the team a bit on the issue.
“I understand the balance of being fresh and stuff, ready for hopefully a long playoff run,” Tatum told reporters in Miami Friday. “I’ve talked about the value that I’ve put into playing in road games. I’ve been very blessed and fortunate to come in arenas, I see a lot of Tatum ‘0’ jerseys and kids with my shoes on. I understand it might be for their birthday or Christmas gift or whatever, and I try to stay ready and play as much and often as I can — and especially games on the road.”
While Tatum may get the night of rest, Derrick White (hip) and Al Horford (toe) will be back in the lineup after sitting out Saturday’s win. Kristaps Porzingis was also not listed on the injury report after playing 32 minutes in his return from illness.
The Celtics and Nets will tip off at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday night at TD Garden.
