Ed Sheeran, Tyler Childers and The Killers will headline Boston Calling this year, but they are not the only notable acts taking the stage at the three-day festival.
The headliners will be joined by more than 50 artists, including more than 20 acts from the Northeast.
To highlight these local artists, MassLive will publish profiles on the acts leading up to the festival’s start date.
Tysk Tysk Task
Samantha Hartsel, frontwoman of the band Tysk Tysk Task, wanted to play Boston Calling ever since she attended the music festival in 2016.
“It was so inspiring to be in a crowd of thousands,” she told MassLive. “Everyone was so focused and present, especially when I was front row for Fleet Foxes. I cried because the music was beautiful but the energy was palpable too.”
Tysk Tysk Task will be playing their largest crowd yet when they take the Orange Stage at Boston Calling on Sunday, May 26.
The show will not only be Tysk Tysk Task’s first performance at New England’s biggest music festival, it will also mark a “chance of a lifetime” for the Lowell-based band.
“When I started the band in 2018, I set playing at BC as a lofty goal I never imagined we’d actually reach,” Hartsel said. “We’re just so excited to connect with the audience and bring our woodland grunge vibes from the basements of Lowell and the underground DIY scene to a main stage.”
Tysk Tysk Task first formed among friends in 2018. The band grew “more seriously” in 2019 before the COVID-19 pandemic hit, Hartsel said. But that didn’t stop the group.
“We found practice spaces to write songs for the majority of the pandemic,” Hartsel explained.
Now, the band is thrilled to be opening the same day as major acts Megan Thee Stallion, Hozier and The Killers. You can keep up with Tysk Tysk Task by following the band on Instagram, Facebook and YouTube.
Boston Calling will take place Memorial Day Weekend from Friday, May 24, until Sunday, May 26, at the Harvard Athletic Complex in Allston.
