Blue Sox give up early runs, fall to Upper Valley on the road

HARTFORD, VT– Blue Sox pitchers had a night to forget during Thursday night’s game against the Nighthawks.

Valley was plagued by seven runs in the first three innings which led to its eventual 10-5 loss against Upper Valley.

After winning New England Collegiate Baseball League pitcher of the week, David Case had his worst start of the season, giving up seven runs (six earned) on six hits. Case’s command was also not the best, as he walked five hitters and had five wild-pitches. Case just pitched three innings and received the loss. After three innings, it was 7-0 Nighthawks.

Blue Sox relief pitcher Mike Jensen came into the game in the fourth inning to replace Case. Jensen pitched two innings and gave up three earned runs on four hits.

Upper Valley starter Tommy Kent went four innings and gave up four runs on five hits while walking just one hitter.

Valley made it a 7-4 game going into the bottom of the fifth, but Upper Valley scored three to make it 10-4. Valley would add one more run in the top of the seventh to make it 10-5.

On the offensive side, every Valley hitter except Chase Jans recorded at least one hit. Michael O’Conor tallied three hits and one walk to lead the way for the Blue Sox. For the Nighthawks, five different players recorded multi-hit games. Upper Valley drew nine walks.

The Blue Sox take on the Vermont Mountaineers on Friday night at 6:35 p.m. EDT at MacKenzie Stadium. This game can be streamed on ESPN+
