‘Beetlejuice’ fans may see this spooky Melrose treehouse in sequel

A Facebook group following the development and filming for the upcoming Warner Bros. Discovery film “Beetlejuice 2″ has located a treehouse used for the film, and it’s not far away from Boston.

Found in a neighborhood in Melrose and adjacent to a red house is a contorted treehouse evocative of director Tim Burton’s style. Other photos in the group page show the treehouse from other angles, where it almost resembles the tree of the dead from his 1999 film “Sleepy Hollow.”

But on July 17, the tree was seen bundled up in a brown tarp.

On the Facebook group “Beetlejuice 2,” Kristin Kohlmeier said she was driving around Boston July 17 and decided to drive to nearby Melrose to see the treehouse, which was wrapped up while film crews stood nearby.

“Very cool to see it in person and can’t wait to see that scene in the movie!” she posted.

Filming has predominantly been located in East Corinth, Vermont, where the first film was shot. Residents and passersby have taken pictures of familiar locations brought back to life, including the Maitlands’ haunted home and the red bridge where the couple (spoiler alert!) met their untimely end.

However, since July 17, two props from the set have been reported stolen, according to the Vermont State Police. A GMC pickup truck sped away from the set with a pumpkin-decorated lamppost covered in tarp and bundled up in the back of it.

Between July 13 and 17, an abstract art statue went missing. Fans of the first film will recognize the statue as belonging to the Deetz family, who have a taste for abstract art and bring pieces of art with them when they move into the haunted home belonging to the film’s dead protagonists. It was near a cemetery before it disappeared.

Burton is returning to direct. Returning cast members include Alec Baldwin, Geena Davis, Wynona Ryder and Catherine O’Hara. Justin Theroux, Monica Belluci, Willem Defoe and “Wednesday’s” Jenna Ortega also fill out the cast, according to Collider.

Michael Keaton is set to return as the film’s titular character in his fifth collaboration with Burton. They previously worked together on “Batman,” “Batman Returns” and “Dumbo.” Keaton returned as the Dark Knight for the first time in more than 30 years in June’s “The Flash.”

“Beetlejuice 2″ will be released by Warner Bros. Discovery and is expected to premiere Sept. 6, 2024. The film was expected to film one more sequence in Vermont until the Screen Actors Guild elected to go on strike, and thus halted production, according to Variety.
