Accidents and injuries can happen at any time — including major holidays.
While getting a couple of stitches or coming down with the flu may not be in your plans for Dec. 25, some things are just out of your control.
Christmas is a federal holiday, so most businesses, including medical clinics, are closed.
However there are still a few open, though holiday hours vary by location and may be shorter than they would be on other days.
In case of an emergency and when in doubt, a trip to your local emergency room on Christmas day may be better, as an ER is more appropriate for severe injuries or physical trauma, according to Aetna, and urgent cares aren’t guaranteed to be open on the holiday when you need them.
If your condition is non-life threatening and you have the time to look it up, finding a walk-in clinic such as an urgent care center may be your better option.
Urgent cares are most suitable for things like colds, minor cuts, sprains and strains.
They also tend to have less of a wait time than the ER and are usually less expensive than an ER visit, according to Aetna.

Priority Urgent Care, located at 1505 Memorial Dr., Chicopee will be open on Christmas Day, though with limited hours.

Winchester Hospital’s Urgent Care center in Wilmington is open on Christmas Day with limited hours from 7:30 a.m. until 3 p.m., a staff member confirmed with MassLive.

PhysicianOne Urgent Care
PhysicianOne Urgent Care has several Massachusetts locations open on Christmas Day.

While MassLive did confirm the hours of operations with staff members, it is always best to call ahead.
