Nearly 500 car crashes were reported to Massachusetts State Police over the holiday weekend — more than double the number from the prior weekend.
The sharp increase in crashes was driven by wet, snowy conditions across the state, as a storm brought up to 8 inches of snow to some areas of Massachusetts overnight Sunday. As of about 9 p.m. Sunday, State Police reported 497 crashes, including 17 with injuries.
The prior weekend, State Police responded to 186 crashes, including 18 with injuries. During the first weekend of February, troopers responded to 223 crashes, including 26 with injuries.
None of the reported crashes were fatal.
The data from State Police only includes collisions on state highways.
