AG Campbell denounces SJC decision overturning switchblade ban

Massachusetts Attorney General Andrea J. Campbell on Tuesday said she was “disappointed” by a Supreme Judicial Court decision overturning a legislative ban on possession of switchblades.

In a statement, Campbell wrote that the decision published Tuesday morning “demonstrates the difficult position that the Supreme Court has put our state courts in with the Bruen decision, and I’m disappointed in today’s result.”

“The fact is that switchblade knives are dangerous weapons, and the Legislature made a commonsense decision to pass a law prohibiting people from carrying them,” Campbell said. “My office will continue to work at the State House and in court to ensure and enforce the laws that keep us safe in order to protect the people of Massachusetts.”
