Adrian Wilson, a former NFL player and front office executive, faces three domestic violence charges following an incident at his home on the morning of June 1.
According to police records, Wilson has been charged with assault intentionally causing physical injury, damaging property and disorderly conduct. All three charges are misdemeanors related to domestic violence.
Citing police records, ESPN reports that Wilson became angry after discovering separation papers obtained by his wife, who had hired a private investigator and learned that Wilson was having an affair.
Wilson then barged into the bedroom, with the ex-player’s wife telling police that he pinned her against the bed and began to choke her, according to ESPN. Wison’s wife told police that the ex-player then took a gun out of the safe — without pointing it at anyone — before leaving the house, per ESPN.
The 44-year-old Wilson, who spent 2013 training camp with the New England Patriots, was the vice president of player personnel for the Carolina Panthers until recently. The team acknowledged on Sunday that they had parted ways with Wilson.
“Adrian Wilson will not continue in his position as Vice President of Player Personnel for the Carolina Panthers,” a team spokesman said in a statement to the AP. “Consistent with our organizational policy on employee matters, we will have no further comment.”
Wilson is best known for his 12-year tenure with the Arizona Cardinals. The former safety was a five-time Pro Bowl selection. After finishing his playing career, Wilson joined the Cardinals as a scout, starting his career in NFL front offices.
Wilson’s next court date is a virtual case management conference set for July 16.
