Abraham Toro (two) and Mikey Romero (two) connected for four combined home runs to lead the Worcester Red Sox to an impressive 10-1 win against Syracuse on Thursday at NBT Bank Stadium.
Romero (3-for-5) and Toro (2-for-5) also recorded five combined hits and drove in all 10 runs to help Worcester improve its record to 71-69.
On the pitching side, meanwhile, Red Sox starter Tyler Uberstine allowed two hits, one walk, and struck out six in five scoreless innings. Complete game statistics can be found here.
With runners on the corners and no outs in the top of the first inning, Toro launched his first home run 380 feet to left-center field to give Worcester an early three-run lead. Kristian Campbell and Romero scored on the play.
The dynamic duo struck in the second inning, though, as Romero recorded his own three-run blast for a distance of 413 feet to center field.
Though this attempt didn’t leave the ballpark, it was still effective, as Toro grounded home Campbell from third base to move the Red Sox ahead 7-0 through two innings of action.
Mets starting pitcher Brandon Waddell allowed eight hits, seven earned runs, one walk, and struck out three in four innings of work. And then reliever Kevin Herget allowed two hits and three runs (one earned) in the eighth.
Worcester and Syracuse both committed one error.
After five combined innings of scoreless action, Romero changed that behind his ninth-season blast on a 1-2 count that also brought home Corey Rosier.
The fireworks weren’t finished, though, as Toro capped the festivities with a two-out, solo home run on a 2-2 count to ensure the Red Sox emerged victorious as reliever Jacob Webb struck out two of three batters faced in the ninth inning.
Worcester also finished 3-for-10 with runners in scoring position and left eight runners on base, while Syracuse went 1-for-6 with runners in scoring position and left seven runners on base.
The Red Sox and Mets will continue their five-game series against each other on Friday at 6:35 p.m.
