Celtics G-League team hires ex-Bucks assistant as head coach

The Maine Celtics have their ninth head coach in the franchise’s history in Blaine Mueller, a longtime Bucks assistant. Mueller replaces Alex Barlow, who accepted an assistant-coaching job at his alma mater with Butler.

“I want to express my immense gratitude to Brad Stevens, Joe Mazzulla, and Jarell Christian for the opportunity to join the storied Celtics organization and continue the great basketball tradition in Maine as Head Coach,” Mueller said in the release. “I am eager to get to work with our staff to develop our players on and off the court, engage with the best fans in the G League, and experience all that Portland has to offer.”

Mueller joined the Bucks in 2018 as a video and player development assistant before climbing the coaching ranks. He was promoted to assistant coach in Milwaukee last season; he also spent three seasons as head video coordinator three seasons with the Bucks. Now, he joins the Celtics staff.

The G-League team will have two-way signees JD Davison, Jay Scrubb and Neemias Queta suiting up for them this season.

“Blaine is a great addition to our staff and is ready to lead the Maine Celtics,” C’s coach Joe Mazzulla said. “He brings great enthusiasm and knowledge off the court, and on the court is deliberate, energetic, and will build strong relationships with the players.”
