Montgomery spoke fondly of his mother on several occasions, including thanking her for her support after winning the Jack Adams Award while the Bruins coach struggled with alcohol.
“And I cannot do it without my family. I’ve got my 91-year-old mom sitting at home watching in the living room in Montreal right now. Love you, Dorothy,” Montgomery said at the NHL Awards show.
Montgomery also credited his mother for his coaching style, adding his positive attitude stems from her because he doesn’t believe she’s had a “bad day in her life.”
“My glass is half full. I think I get that from my mom,” Montgomery said in March. “I don’t think she’s ever had a bad day in her life. … I think that’s where I get my balance from, my parents.”
