Jets WR has ‘all the confidence’ in Zach Wilson despite loss to Patriots, heated sideline moment

Zach Wilson fell to 0-5 against the Patriots in his career on Sunday when the Jets dropped their Week 3 game to New England, 15-10, at MetLife Stadium.

And even though the third-year quarterback drew the ire of the legendary Joe Namath, and got into a sideline tiff with teammate Garrett Wilson, the confidence in Zach Wilson hasn’t wavered.

“Oh yeah, come on now. That’s my dog,” Garrett Wilson told reporters after the loss. “I have all the confidence in the world in him. We got to figure it out on offense as a whole.”

This wasn’t the first time the wide receiver expressed confidence in his quarterback. He vocalized as much during their Week 1 win over the Buffalo Bills after Zach Wilson had to come into the game for the injured Aaron Rodgers.

“Because of the effect that can have on people, belief. People believing in you, people you get to work with everyday believing in you. Sometimes it can seem like the world is against you, but it’s never really the case, we’ve always got our guys backs,” Garrett Wilson told reporters when asked why he vocalized his belief in Zach Wilson on the sideline. “We always want to make sure we’ve got our brothers back, & if he doesn’t know that, then I’m doing my job wrong. I want to make sure I give him all the empowerment in the world, and I know all the others guys feel the same about it.”

The Jets attempted a comeback bid against New England and had multiple chances at a game-winning drive. But the offense couldn’t get it done.

Despite the performance, Jets coach Robert Saleh is still sticking with Zach Wilson at quarterback. Tim Boyle was elevated from the practice squad for Week 3, and a few veteran free agents reportedly have reached out to the Jets and expressed a desire to play for Gang Green.

But they still haven’t signed someone, and it will be interesting to see if there is any urgency after Sunday’s loss.

The Jets and the Patriots meet in Week 18 in the regular season finale. It’s impossible to know if Zach Wilson will continue to be under center by then, but it’s certainly one storyline worth watching.
