Nick Sogard scored all three runs Friday night as the Worcester Red Sox defeated the Lehigh Valley IronPigs, 3-2, on the road.
With the win, the WooSox knocked the IronPigs out of postseason contention.
Lehigh Valley took a 1-0 lead in the second, but Worcester was quick to respond in the top of the third. Although Stephen Scott grounded into a double play, Sogard managed to score, tying up the game.
Niko Kavadas then walked in a run with the bases loaded in the fifth, before Narciso Crook singled in a run in the seventh.
Lehigh Valley pushed across one final run in the ninth, but couldn’t complete the comeback.
Sogard finished the game 3-for-4 with a walk and three runs scored. Brandon Walter, meanwhile, earned the win as he gave up one run on three hits over five innings of work.
Although Luis Guerrero gave up a ninth-inning run, he ultimately closed out the game for the save.
Worcester moved to 79-68 on the season. The Red Sox will look for their third straight win Saturday when they play the IronPigs at 6:35 p.m.
