Springfield – As part of the ongoing commitment to empower the LGBTQ+ community and foster safe spaces for youth, the Springfield Pride Parade Organization (SPPO) has partnered with the University of Massachusetts-Amherst Minutemen Football Team to celebrate Matthew Bullock Day with Springfield Public School Students in grades 6-8.
SPPO founder Taurean Bethea will be honored as a Minuteman honorary co-captain and will officiate the coin toss to start the game between the UMass Amherst Minutemen and the New Mexico Lobos on Saturday, Sept. 23, at 3:30 p.m. SPPO has organized a special outing for Springfield Public School students in grades 6-8 to attend the Matthew Bullock Game: A Celebration of Black Excellence at the University of Massachusetts Amherst at no cost. Transportation to and from the college football game as well as the cost of entry will be covered.
Family and community members who wish to attend but who are not Springfield Public School students in grades 6-8 can purchase discounted tickets online: www.umassathletics.com/matthewbullock.
Parents and guardians should RSVP for their student(s) no later than Thursday, September 21, 2023, and submit signed permission slips on the day of the event. Additional details can be found online. Participants are strongly encouraged to wear maroon attire to cheer on the team.
