WESTFIELD — Cyclists from Western Massachusetts and beyond will again meet up on Sunday morning, Oct. 8 at the Sons of Erin, 22 William St., Westfield, before embarking on one of several chosen routes in the Great River Ride 2023, presented by the Columbia Greenway Rail Trail and New Horizons Bikes.
Carmel Steger, president of Friends of the Columbia Greenway Rail Trail, which benefits from the proceeds, said the Great River Ride, now in its 36th year, predates the rail trail in Westfield. She said it all started with the Great River Ride that went up country, traveling through the Hilltowns of Huntington, Chester, Worthington and Chesterfield on routes that Don Podolski, owner of event co-sponsor New Horizons Bikes and one of the founders of the Great River Ride, originally set up.
