SPRINGFIELD – The Westfield State women’s volleyball team opened the 2023 campaign with a road loss against Springfield College in straight sets (25-13, 25-20, 25-12) as part of the Springfield Invitational on Sept. 1.
The Owls jumped out to an early lead in the first set with Michaela O’Connor (Shrewsbury) delivering a kill to put Westfield in front 11-5. However, the Pride responded with a furious rally of 14 unanswered points including six service aces from Ally Townsend (Hummelstown, Penn.) to make it a 19-11 Springfield advantage.
